Love in Lockdown

love in lockdown dating tips

It’s no secret that the world of dating can be a bit of a minefield, more so if it’s been a while since you were last on the romantic scene.

The recent coronavirus pandemic has certainly created some additional challenges when it comes to meeting new people – but that shouldn’t mean that you can’t find love, even if it is during lockdown!

At Unified Dating, we are dedicated to supporting singles in finding the perfect love match, in a safe and comfortable setting. Alongside our expertly organised online dating events, we have also taken the time to compile our top five tips for keeping your dating life active, during these turbulent times.

  1. Be patient
It’s easy to feel as though time isn’t on your side when the whole world is currently on hold. However, it is important to remember that developing a healthy relationship is a process, and should always take some time.
Love is a marathon, not a sprint – don’t put additional pressure on yourself to find your perfect match straight away. Instead, use this time to really get to know the person you are talking to.
This offers a fantastic opportunity to really build a great foundation of communication, so just go with the flow!

  2. Be open and honest
Building a relationship through a screen can feel a bit unnatural at first, which is why it’s so important to be open and honest about yourself and your expectations from the start. You will feel far more connected with your match if you are able to be your true self from the start, and not be tempted to act differently behind the protection of your computer screen.

  3. Set boundaries
We are incredibly fortunate to live with the technological advances that allow instant communication with the outside world. However, the knowledge that the person we want to talk to is only the push of a button away can sometimes lead to complicated situations.

To avoid any awkward conversations down the line, it is important to discuss any boundaries or limitations with communication from the outset. It can be beneficial to let your date know what times are best to contact you.

  4. Keep it light-hearted
There’s no doubting that we have been exposed to a lot of heavy conversations over the past year, and whilst it is important to acknowledge common interests, some of which some may involve serious conversation, do remain mindful of the balance between this, and taking time to be playful.
There are plenty of apps available to play online games together, perhaps you could watch a film at the same time, or create a book club for two – the ideas are endless for bringing fun to your lockdown!

  5. Try virtual video dating
We understand that phone calls and text messages will only go so far, which is why we’ve been working hard to organise a variety of online events, so you can meet fabulous, likeminded people from the comfort of your own home.

We also offer bespoke private dates for you and your match, if you fancy taking things further, from cooking and cocktails to live music and masterclasses, we can put together something to suit the taste of you and your match.
